The chimney is no more. Can I get a what what!? After waiting for over 2 weeks the chimney is finally gone. We had Twin Cities Roofing do the work for us. They did the work in just a couple hours what would have taken me couple days. For some reason I didn’t think to take a before photo, but here is the after.

I was worried that the new patch wouldn’t match the old roof, but you can barely notice a difference. You can, however, notice those roof nail pops…which I still need to fix. As part of the contract I got the contractor to agree to pick up the debris without having to get a dumpster to save on costs. They are located less than a mile away from our crib so they agreed to it. Yessss.

Luckily, I was able to salvage some of the bricks from the chimney. They need to be cleaned up and some of them still have the mortar attached that will need to be chiseled off. I think I am just going to put them in the garage for the winter. I am not sure what I am going to do with them, but I will use them in the landscape somewhere. Maybe as bed edgers or a walkway. Either way, this will be a project for next spring. I also have a large pile of bricks out at the farm that my parents are saving for me. Also, my sister knew someone that was giving away 25 interlocking edgers and snagged them for me as well. It looking like I will be up to my neck in bricks in the spring.

A nice shot of the rubble pile before they hauled it away.

I still need to do something with this pile of leftover class V crushed concrete that we used for the retaining wall. I was planning on putting it on Craigslist, but I still want to use it next year, so it will most likely stay for the winter. It is an eye sore, but oh well.

Now that the chimney is gone and the roof is no longer leaking into the guest bedroom, I can finally start working on trimming out the top portion of the exposed brick. Yuuhhhhs! Wahoo progress!
